We’re especially excited to bring Jay Kelly and Paul Nicklen together in conversation, moderated by Cristina Mittermeier, whose own practice spans both photography and collage. The discussion highlights an unexpected connection between these artists’ creative processes. Jay has long been inspired by National Geographic imagery, often drawing from photographs of wildlife and the natural world as source material for his intricate collage works. Paul, renowned for his powerful images of bears and other wildlife, has helped shape the visual language that has inspired Jay’s artistic practice. Together, they’ll explore how an image can evolve—from documenting the natural world through photography to being transformed into layered, painterly collage—and how visual storytelling continues to influence the work of all three artists.
